What is the SBA?

The Small Business Administration (SBA) is an independent agency of the federal governemtn to aid, counsel, assist and protect the interests of small business. the SBA does not directly lend money to entrepreneurs. It guarantees loans made by lenders to entrepreneurs who would not normally qualify. The federal government allocated an additional $750 million to the SBA via the American Recovery Act(ARC) of 2009. Since SBA money is only spent when entrepreneurs default on loans the SBA hopes to entice lenders to make $16 billion in additional loans.

You may use your SBA ARC loan for many things including:

  • Debt consolidation
  • Equipment purchase
  • Remodel or expand
  • Advertising & marketing
  • Payroll
  • Secure working capital
